On the 12th October 2014, Surfing Bird held their first Yoga and Surfing Day for Beginners! A spanner was put in the works by the gorgeous day with not a bit of swell to be seen but we didn’t let that stop us.
Due to the beautifully flat calm sea, the surf in the morning was postponed until 2nd November and so we skipped straight to the lunch and Yoga. The yoga teacher, Leanne Bird, went through what yoga was and how yoga can benefit surfing and also how surfing can benefit yoga practice, before moving on to a yoga session with asanas (postures), relaxation, pranayamas (breathing) and meditation.
A good day was had by all despite the lack of surfing, with one participant stating ‘very relaxing and gained an understanding re:yoga and breathing techniques’ and another said ‘the meditation was excellent, and the food!’
Everyone is now looking forward to the Surfing aspect in November!
